BBC 100 Women

I am deeply honored to be featured in this year’s BBC 100 Women documentary, alongside the brilliant scientists Rosa Vásquez Espinosa and Karen Kosiba. This film captures the extraordinary lengths we go to in order to collect scientific data that could help protect our planet.

For me, this documentary marks a particularly special moment—it is the first time images of our Project in Uganda on the glaciers of the Rwenzori are being shared. These glaciers, perched high in the Mountains of the Moon, are some of the most fragile on Earth, and our mission was to map their remaining ice and assess their future. The project, carried out with an incredible team of local guides and scientists, is not just about science but also about capacity building and ensuring that the people most affected by these changes have the knowledge and tools to monitor their own environment.

Being part of this documentary is a privilege, and I hope it brings more visibility to the vital work being done across extreme environments—from glaciers to the Amazon to hurricanes—to understand the rapid transformations reshaping our world.

Huge thanks to Woody Morris, Sarah Tiamiyu and Julia Swell for this incredible work. It's been a pleasure working with you all.
